A handy point mid-way between Keswick and Penrith, this is a cosy, comfortable and relaxed inn with a four star rating from the English tourist board. In addition to seven rooms there are three cottages. Dogs welcome. The owner is a chef who has cooked in the Channel Isles and the culinary influence is French, with much use of local produce. And it's jolly good...

This is a lovely pub and restaurant. Great candle lit meal for me and my hubby, very good quality and good choice of food. It was a good way to end our first day with a bit of R&R in the bar. Rooms a bit small but it had everything you need. And the beds were very comfortable. It is run more like a country hotel though rather than an Inn I am not sure how the Landlady would cope with lots of wet cyclists on her doorstep. There was a garage to store your bikes. Breakfast was at 8.30am (not before!!) I came down at 8.20am and had to go back upstairs - so no good if you need an early start.
